CURACAO

Miko the Kitty: Curaçao is a small island in the southern Caribbean Sea, located just 40 miles off the coast of Venezuela. Aruba and Bonaire, its immediate neighbors, are located respectively to the west and east of the island.

Due to its influence by Dutch settlers, Curaçao has been called a small piece of Northern Europe with Willemstad, its capital city, compared to Amsterdam. The island is a unique blend of cultures, architectural styles and food as a direct result of its multiethnic society.

Before European arrival in 1499, Curaçao was inhabited only by Arawak Amerindians (indigenous people). From the 1500s on, the island started to welcome people from Africa as well as regions of Latin America, Asia and Europe. This makes of Curaçao a multicultural society with some 55 ethnic backgrounds.

Curaçao is known for its crystal clear beaches where you can enjoy the sunshine and have one of the most relaxing holidays. For those who enjoy a little more action, water sports of any kind are also widely available. In the evening you might as well enjoy the night and go dancing. Beaches like “Mambo Beach” are the center of Curaçao’s nightlife with restaurants, cafés, live music and more.

All in all, Curaçao is a place for the senses where you can taste the local cuisine, see the island’s nature and its various landscapes, listen to the roaring sound of the sea, smell tropical flowers and get a touch of the exciting Caribbean. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XIAV66a6Yso
